1. What ThisOrThat Is

ThisOrThat is a provably fair card marketplace where the purchase price of physical sports cards is determined by a coin flip game. This is not gambling. Every buyer receives a physical card regardless of the flip outcome. The flip only determines whether the buyer pays above or below market value for the card.

2. How It Works

• Cards are listed at market value with a seller-defined spread percentage.
• Buyers choose THIS (heads) or THAT (tails) and authorize payment before the flip occurs.
• A cryptographic coin flip determines the outcome — THIS (even hex) or THAT (odd hex).
• Win: Buyer pays below market value. The card ships to the buyer.
• Lose: Buyer pays above market value. The buyer may choose to receive the card or use Instant Buyback.
• Instant Buyback: If the buyer loses, they may sell the card back immediately at market value, paying only the spread difference. No card ships.
• Buy Now: Buyers may purchase any card at market value without flipping.

3. Provably Fair System

Every flip uses SHA-256 cryptographic commit-reveal:

• A random server seed is generated and hashed before the buyer makes their pick.
• The hash (commit) is shown to the buyer before they choose.
• After the pick, the server seed is revealed. The last hexadecimal character determines the result: even = THIS, odd = THAT.
• Anyone can verify the result by hashing the revealed seed and comparing it to the commit hash.
• The platform cannot manipulate outcomes after the commit hash is generated.

4. Payments

• Payments are processed through Stripe. Your card is pre-authorized for the maximum possible charge (lose price + shipping) before the flip.
• After the flip, only the actual amount is captured based on the result.
• If you use Instant Buyback, only the spread amount is charged.
• The platform charges a service fee on each transaction.
• All prices are in USD.

5. Shipping

• Cards that are won or purchased ship via USPS (BMWT or Priority Mail).
• Shipping costs are displayed before the flip and added to the card price.
• Cards are shipped within 3 business days of the transaction.
• Tracking information is provided for all shipments.
• Instant Buyback transactions do not involve shipping — the card remains with the seller.

6. Card Authenticity

All graded cards listed on ThisOrThat are authenticated by their respective grading companies (PSA, SGC, BGS). Certification numbers are provided and can be verified directly with the grading company. Card images show the actual slab being sold.

7. Not Gambling

ThisOrThat is a marketplace, not a gambling platform. Key distinctions:

• Every buyer receives a card or pays only the spread via buyback. There is no scenario where a buyer loses their entire payment and receives nothing.
• The flip determines pricing, not whether the buyer receives goods.
• Buyers can always purchase at market value without flipping (Buy Now).
• The buyer sets their own risk level via the spread slider.
• Instant Buyback limits the maximum loss to the spread amount.

8. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years of age to use ThisOrThat. By creating an account and making a purchase, you confirm that you meet this requirement. ThisOrThat is available to users in the United States.

9. Refunds & Disputes

• All flip results are final and cryptographically verifiable.
• If a card arrives damaged or is not as described, contact us for a resolution.
• Instant Buyback transactions are non-refundable as no goods are exchanged.
• Complete provably fair proof (server seed, commit hash, result) is provided for every transaction.

10. Limitation of Liability

ThisOrThat provides a platform for buying and selling sports cards with variable pricing determined by a provably fair mechanism. We are not responsible for market value fluctuations of cards after purchase. Our total liability is limited to the transaction amount of the specific purchase in question.
